PTO Tracking App

Overview

During casual conversations with our managers, the concept of developing an in-house app for tracking personal time off emerged.

The objective was to develop an app that enables employees to plan their time off, while managers can have an overview of this information.

My role was to define the application and come up with a visual language that could be used for future in-house projects. Since the project was to be developed by interns that summer, the design needed to be extremely easy to follow.

Process

The initial step involved defining the application. Collaborating with the lead developer, we consulted our managers to identify the most crucial features they required, and we incorporated those into the MVP.

Since this was a relatively simple application, after establishing the MVP, I directly began working on the high-fidelity design of the app, which saved me some time.

We had the ideal group for the user testing sessions, as the eventual users would be actual employees.

After the initial session, I received all the feedback and implemented the required changes. To minimize biases, I created a new group for the second session.

Seeing that most people successfully navigated the scenarios without any issues, I proceeded to design a basic system. The interns utilized this system and implemented the design without encountering any difficulties.
